Since 1985 the internal drama of Albert Square has been providing us with seemingly non-stop entertainment, and recent episodes of EastEnders have been no exception.
Back in June, a significant line-up change sent shockwaves through the show’s fan community when it was announced that several characters would be leaving the show in the coming months, including Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ), Dana Monroe (Barbara Smith), and Peter Beale (Dayle Hudson).
One of those also confirmed to be leaving the show has been Kelsey Calladine-Smith, who plays Jada Lennox (who first appeared on the show back in 2021).
Though we’ve recently said goodbye to several iconic soaps, including Neighbours and Holby City, EastEnders remains popular with fans. The storylines have recently received something of a shakeup, thanks partly to the new addition of producer Chris Clenshaw.
An EastEnders insider told Metro.co.uk: ‘Whenever a new boss comes in there’s always going to be big changes and it’s no different with Chris.
‘He’s been working hard behind the scenes since January and is really planning to shake things up which means saying goodbye to some characters.’
They continued: ‘It’s nothing personal to any of the cast going, it’s simply a creative decision – for big storylines to happen you have to say goodbye people, that’s the nature of soap.’
When could Jada Lennox be leaving Eastenders?
Speculation has been rife about how Jada might be exiting the show soon, with her storyline seemingly becoming more dramatic than ever.
Her character has come a long way since her early appearances in Albert Square, falling pregnant by Dennis Rickman Jnr and leaving her daughter Alyssa on Sharon Watts’ doorstep.
Her recent storylines have seen her embroiled in Janine’s (Charlie Brooks) evil scheming against Linda (Kellie Bright) and saw her blackmailed into planting bottles of alcohol around Linda’s home, which in turn saw baby Annie taken away from her.
Ridden with guilt, Jada told Sharon what she had done, and now many questions are posed. Will Sharon tell Linda? What would Linda do? What is Janine’s next move? Could any of this be tied up in Jada’s exit?
Speculation that Jada’s time on the square could nearly be over increased after an Instagram post from Kelsey Calladine-Smith three days ago (August 29) stating that her time on the show: ‘has brought me nothing but smiles!’ and posing with various members of the cast including upcoming Strictly Come Dancing contestant James Bye (Martin Fowler), Danny Dyer (Mick Carter), Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell), Kellie Bright (Linda Carter), and Letitia Dean (Sharon Watts) and members of the crew.
Just how Jada Lennox will exit EastEnders, we shall have to wait and see. But one thing is for sure – it won’t be short of drama.
Cue the drums.
EastEnders continues tonight on BBC One at 7.30pm.
