EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Is Simon Cowell’s £18m home lacking the X Factor? TV mogul rents out luxury spread after congested school run puts him off moving in

Renowned for his withering put-downs of contestants on TV talent shows, what must Simon Cowell make of the estate agents tasked with selling the seven-bedroom Wimbledon house he bought for £15 million in 2019?

I can reveal that, despite having had it on the market since late last year, the agents have failed to find a buyer, forcing The X Factor supremo to rent it out instead.

Cowell, 63, has never actually lived in the property, which was put on the market for £18 million with estate agent Fuller Gilbert following extensive renovations.

He had been intending to set up home there with fiancée Lauren Silverman, 45, their son Eric, eight, and her son Adam, 16, from her previous marriage to businessman Andrew Silverman.

It is thought that the Britain’s Got Talent judge was wanting to send Eric to £24,255-a-year King’s College School but a ‘dummy run’ of the 14-mile trip is said to have taken two hours on one occasion and this is believed to be one of the major factors in him deciding to remain at his current Holland Park residence instead.

‘Simon spent around £1 million tailoring it to meet his and his family’s needs, so he was definitely planning to make it his base in the UK,’ says a source close to Cowell.

‘However, when he realised that London traffic could make the relatively short trip so arduous, he determined it wasn’t the place for him and put it on the market.

Although details of how much it costs to rent Cowell’s South London house are being kept private, similar properties can easily go for five-figure monthly sums

‘The fact that nearby Hammersmith Bridge, which closed in 2020 over safety fears, has still not reopened to cars certainly doesn’t help the already congested surrounding roads.’

Although details of how much it costs to rent Cowell’s South London house are being kept private, similar properties can easily go for five-figure monthly sums. One example is a six-bedroom detached home situated on nearby Murray Road, priced at £13,500 a month.

The music mogul’s Holland Park home was burgled in 2015, when £1 million in jewellery was stolen. It was also where he injured himself falling down the stairs in October 2017. Cowell also owns an £18 million mansion in Malibu and previously had a £19 million home in Los Angeles.

 Birthday Manolos for Toffolo

Going barefoot at the end of a night out tends to be the sign of an eventful evening — with lots of dancing.

And it seems I’m A Celebrity winner Georgia Toffolo had quite the birthday celebration at the weekend with friends, family — and dog Monty — back in Devon.

She shared a photo of herself wearing a slinky silver dress holding a pair of fuchsia Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps that cost £795 alongside a chocolate cake.

’28 and thriving,’ she announced.

The former Made In Chelsea star may soon have to give up such creature comforts — she’s rumoured to be heading to South Africa for the All Stars spin-off series of I’m A Celebrity…

If Gary Lineker wanted sympathy after bad weather delayed his flight to Spain he was disappointed. He had been due in Catalonia for his old side Barcelona’s match against Athletic Bilbao.

The BBC’s highest-earner on £1.36 million, the Match Of The Day host still takes on other lucrative roles, including presenting on Spanish channel La Liga TV, which sees him jetting off to Spain on a regular basis.

‘Don’t think I’ll make it for the kick off… or even the final whistle,’ moaned the 61-year-old self-styled eco-warrior, who previously announced he was ‘done with the wearisome, misinformed climate change deniers’.

Alas, rather than show concern for his plight, people piled in to question how somebody so concerned with the environment, can turn a blind eye to his own gargantuan carbon footprint.

  • Theresa May continues to cash in on her status as a former PM on the lucrative after-dinner speeches circuit. According to the Register of Members’ Interests, the 66-year-old earned almost £900,000 this year for just 63 hours’ work, which works out as an average of around £14,000 an hour. And it seems the U.S. is where she’s most in demand, with an impressive £113,000 payday from the Analytical, Life Science & Diagnostics Association, as well as a further £404,800 for a series of six speaking engagements on the other side of the pond.
  • Budding Bake-Off contestants beware — you’d better get your timings right if making anything with apples. That’s because presenter Matt Lucas is so allergic to raw apples he can potentially meet his maker if he mistakenly eats anything they might be hidden in. ‘I’m allergic to raw apples,’ says the 48-year-old comedian. ‘I’m anaphylactic with raw apples but I’m all right with cooked apples. So I used to have a lot of apple pies.’
  • Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes has criticised writers on EastEnders for making it so full of confrontation. ‘I tried for some years with EastEnders but I thought they are all so rude to each other,’ says the 73-year-old. ‘It is like all the characters say is, ‘What do you want?’ I wouldn’t live like this. My experiences in the East End are not like that. I don’t know why they do it. This is absolute nonsense.’ The Oscar-winner urges producers of the show, set in the fictional borough of Walford: ‘Your job is to create a believable world.’

Sporty’s surprise!

‘When people book me for events, if it’s like corporate events, I’m always a surprise,’ laments 48-year-old Sporty Spice

One would imagine that performing on cruise ships is a perfect way to enjoy a free holiday while being paid.

Not so for Mel C who has to hide in her cabin until it’s time for her gig, since she gets billed as a secret guest performer.

‘When people book me for events, if it’s like corporate events, I’m always a surprise,’ laments 48-year-old Sporty Spice.

‘It’s like: “Stay in your dressing room because you’re a surprise.” Why am I always a surprise? It means I can’t go and look around. I’m on a cruise ship, I’ve got to stay in my cabin.’

She’s poised to reveal intimate details of her eventful life in a tell-all tour around Australia in a few months’ time, but the Duchess of York isn’t worried.
