The Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals came to a dramatic close last night, as Will Mellor, 46, became the latest celebrity to exit the competition. Gemma Atkinson, 38, who is married to professional dancer Gorka Márquez, 32, admitted their three-year-old daughter Mia was “gutted” to see the actor leave the BBC show.

Will took to Instagram yesterday to share the disappointing news, thanking his 408,000 followers for all their support throughout the competition.

Plenty of the soap star’s celeb pals responded in the comments, including former Strictly contestant and soap actress Gemma.

“There was tears in our house last night,” Gemma penned before giving a shout out to her daughter, who was a big fan of Will’s.

“Mia was gutted bless her,” Gemma continued. “You did Amazing will!

“Should be very proud, and you took me right back to my clubbing days with your dance!! Loved it!” (sic)

Gemma also took to Instagram last night to share her viewing experience with daughter Mia, who was devastated to see Will leave.

Posting a clip to her 1.8 million followers, Gemma captioned the post: “Well this is awkward”.

A concerned-looking Mia looked watched on as the Tess and Claudia prepared to announce whether it would be Will and partner Nancy Xu – or dad Gorka and celebrity partner Helen Skelton – competing in the dance-off.

“Papa will need to leave!” Mia declared worriedly, as Helen replied, “They need to get through, don’t they? One of them.”

Helen tried to reassure Mia by saying: “Even if they leave tonight, they’ll still be dancers!”

“Yeah, but I will cry if he goes,” Mia insisted, prompting Helen to laugh before insisting “you won’t” while pulling a nervous expression.

Luckily for Helen and Gorka, they sailed through, while Will and Nancy were placed in the bottom two against Fleur East and partner Vito Coppola.

After the two couples fighting to remain in the competition were announced, Gemma shared a new video of Mia watching the TV nervously with the caption: “Gonna turn it off now.”

“Can’t put her through the dance off,” she added with a face palm emoji.

“I feel this is practice for future heartbreaks at least. I felt the same when Take That split up!”

Gemma then proudly shared a picture of her husband and his dance partner with big smiles as they headed into the Strictly final.

“Also THANK YOU! For voting for these two,” Helen wrote. “I’m so pleased!!! It’s so deserved.

“The work behind the scenes from them both mentally and physically has blown me away.

“Super proud! And I cannot wait to watch you both (hopefully) lift that glitterball next Saturday.”

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs at 7.05pm this Saturday on BBC One.
