Inside Home and Away Roo Stewart star’s love life with rarely-seen husband

Roo Stewart has become a mainstay of the Home and Away cast since she dramatically returned to the show back in 2010.

During her time in Summer Bay, Roo has been involved in a number of raunchy storylines, including temptation, affairs and romance. But currently, Roo has been left in recovery after being seriously injured as a result of a bomb explosion on a van she was in.

Despite the twists and turns her character takes, Roo's actress Georgie Parker's life is worlds away from her Summer Bay character. Together with husband Steve Worland, the 58-year-old lives a pleasant life with her beau, after being together for nearly 30 years.

So, as Georgie's on-screen character Roo fights to recover from her horrific injuries, Daily Star looks deep into Georgie and Steve's blossoming relationship history.

First meetings

Georgie and Steve first met each other in 1990, when the Aussie actress was aged 33. At the time, Georgie had become a fixture of Australian TV as she took on the role of nurse Lucy Gardiner in A Country Practice between 1988 and 1992.

Despite initially going slow, the pair soon eventually fell in love with each other, and were partners for nine years. In December of 1999, the pair officially decided to tie the knot together, getting hitched in a modest ceremony to ring out the millennium together.

The pair soon started a family together, when in 2000 Georgie gave birth to the couple's baby daughter Holly in September of that year. Since her birth, Parker has kept Holly – now aged 23 – out of the limelight, stating that she wants Holly to choose whether she wants to be in the public eye.

Keeping the spark alive

As well as daughter Holly, Georgie rarely speaks about her love life with husband Steve. This is due to a strict policy she holds with herself about refusing to talk about her private life.

In an interview with Stellar Magazine in 2017, the actress said: "I don't talk about my family at all. I think it's not their career – it's mine!"

However, despite this, Steve – who works as an acclaimed screenwriter – has been spotted with his glam wife on a number of occasions. The Home and Away star admitted that the pair have gone through tough times, but they have overall managed to avoid conflict throughout their 24 years of marriage.

Speaking to Good Health Magazine, Georgie revealed the secret to how the pair have managed to last so long together. She admitted in the interview the pair have vastly different interests.

"We've never been joined at the hip," Parker explained in 2021. "It's just not the way we operate. We do things independently, but also as a family and as a couple."

Privacy

Despite both working in the same industry, both Georgie and Steve are rarely seen together in public. The pair never appear on red carpet events together, with the exception of the 2015 premiere of the film Paper Planes.

Acting as the movie's screenwriter, Worland turned up the premiere of the blockbuster with wife Georgie in an extremely rare move. On the carpet, Steve kept things casual – wearing just a large black T-shirt and a pair of jeans, whilst Georgie sported a vibrant patterned maxi gown – together with some wedge sandals.

Parker seems content with her lifestyle with her beau Steve, and believes she made a "conscious choice" to keep her loved ones out of her fame. Speaking on her family, she insisted: "I would never drag [my daughter] into the spotlight. She can start her own life and be known for who she is, not who her mother is."
