Jesy Nelson forced to deny she’s engaged to Chris Hughes after wearing a ring on left hand at NTAs – The Sun

JESY Nelson sparked rumours she and Chris Hughes were heading for a wedding last night when she wore a ring on her left hand to the NTAs.

However, when quizzed about it in the press room at the end of the night, she insisted: "No, it's not an engagement ring. This is just accessories."

Eagle-eyed fans began to wonder if wedding bells were on the horizon for the singer as they spotted the ring on her left hand whilst she donned the NTAs red carpet with boyfriend Chris Hughes.

Jesy had plenty to smile about after winning National Television Award for best Factual Entertainment and her fans have given her overwhelming support.

They took to social media to praise the singer, with one fans saying: "You looked amazing! Well deserved win – you have educated a whole generation. Never forget that! Xx"

Whilst another said: "We are so proud of you!!!"

A third fan needed capital letters to illustrated her excitement added: "IM SO PROUD OF YOU JESY I LOVE YOU."

Jesy couldn't hold back the tears as she won an NTA for her moving BBC documentary Odd One Out.

In the program she spoke candidly about abuse she received online after winning X-Factor with Little Mix.

Struggling to speak as she took to the stage at the O2 Arena, she said tearfully: "I'm so sorry, this is so overwhelming, I'm such a baby. Thank you so much.

"I want to start by thanking the BBC for being the most incredible team to work with, my dear friend Adam for being the most incredible director."

She went on to thank her mum, who appeared in the documentary, and boyfriend Chris Hughes but with her emotions all over the place following her victory, she forgot to mention band-mates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirwall.

She finished her speech saying: "Last but not least, thank you to everyone who voted you have no idea how much this means to me.

"I'm so grateful that such a negative experience in my life turned into such a positive one and that's all thanks to you guys."

It wasn't all smiles for the pair at last night's National Television Awards as Chris was involved in a bust-up with a photographer.

He is now being investigated by police after the altercation with the cameraman.

The 27-year-old took to Instagram to apologise to his girlfriend for his actions on her big night and claims it was an act of self-defence.

"I want to address last nights altercation," he said.

"I was having an amazing night celebrating the award my girlfriend deservedly won.

"After coming out of our hotel a particular paparazzi decided to repeatedly call me a name I wouldn't call my worst enemy, and physically try and start an altercation.

"As everyone can see I retaliated back badly to this which I totally regret. I'm human.

"No different to anyone else.

"However I want to make everyone aware this was only in self defence.

"I hope people I care about including my followers, family and friends can understand and forgive me.

"This night was about Jesy's win and I am sorry if I distracted anyone from this.

"Ultimately, I'm the proudest boyfriend ever and want to congratulate my amazing girlfriend for a deserving win. I am so proud of you."

Nelson began dating 2017 Love Island contestant Hughes in February 2019 and onlookers spotted them looking very cosy at Westfield Shopping Centre in London.

One shopper at the Shepherd's Bush superstore told The Sun: "I was so surprised to see Chris and Jesy walk past."

They added: "They looked very much a couple, cuddling and holding hands as they came in. He put his arm around her as they went up the escalator together."

The signs were there that the two were smitten with one another when they were seen snogging in a kebab shop the previous month.

The pair went on a date, starting with cocktails before heading to a nearby kebab shop.

Singer Jesy, 27, and  Love Island star Chris, 25, began exchanging flirty direct messages over Instagram before they started dating.

An onlooker in Elephant & Castle, South East London, said: “They couldn’t keep their (probably greasy) mitts off one another. They kept pausing mid-sentence to snog, and were really affectionate.”
