Chief Whip Simon Hart has confirmed the Tory whip has been removed from Mr Hancock as he issued a statement which read: "Following a conversation with Matt Hancock, I have considered the situation and believe this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect."
Insiders have told The Sun that Mr Hancock sprung the news on Tory colleagues after he failed to get promoted in Rishi Sunak's reshuffle last week.
An insider told the publication that the MP would be heading into the jungle and described the stint as a "sensational signing for the show".
They added: "Producers love a star with a story to tell – and they always hope they'll spill the beans round the campfire."
He's not the first politician to head in the jungle, with the likes of MP Nadine Dorries, Stanley Johnson and MP Lembit Opik all having stints in the jungle.
As the news spread of the MP's stint shockwaves flooded as many took to social media to declare they'll be "watching the series" and "voting for him for trials".
One user wrote: "If this is true about Matt Hancock signing up for I'm A Celeb, I shall be spending months' chocolate budget on voting for him to do challenges. Feel free to join me."
Another joked: "I don't blame him for signing up after Rishi snubbed him last week…"
A third wrote: "Matt Hancock is gonna be on I'm A Celeb?? Well we know who's getting voted for all the trials then."
A fourth added: "Just read that Matt Hancock is going on I'm A Celeb. Pls this man is so unserious, I will most definitely be watching."
Matt Hancock will join as a wildcard arriving shortly after the 10 contestants have already entered the jungle.
He will join the likes of Love Island's Olivia Attwood, pop sensation Boy George and Corrie's Sue Cleaver as they take on challenges to fight for the title of King or Queen of the Jungle.
I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! returns to ITV on November 6.
