Salvage Hunter Drew Pritchard who was ‘born to find gold’ has ‘binned old life’

Salvage Hunter Drew Pritchard has admitted that he is “starting again from scratch” after he stopped drinking two years ago.

Pritchard told The Telegraph: “I’ve had a blip in the middle where everything just got too much for me, which I’m over now and working on. I’ve started again from scratch. I’ve completely binned my old life and started afresh.”

However, he doesn’t have a similar mentality when it comes to his career. Pritchard knew he wanted to be an antiques dealer by the time he was 11 and four decades on, he’s been branded as a “rock-star” of the antiques industry.

The star has A-list clients, including Ralph Lauren and Marco Pierre White, alongside his TV show Salvage Hunters. In May 2023, Drew put his passion into writing and published How Not To Be An Antiques Dealer: Everything I’ve Learnt, That Nobody Told Me.

Pritchard hopes his knowledge can be bestowed upon many for years to come with this book, which includes warnings on the job taking over his life. However, he agrees that it was the best decision he’s ever made.

Drew has been in the antiques industry for over 30 years and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. As a child, Drew and his friends were partial to a spot of shed peeking around Glan Conwy. Although they never stole anything, the group got a rush from seeing what was inside.

Pritchard told Quest: “I was just utterly fascinated with it and it’s never left me. It’s not something I can explain why, I just had to be around this old stuff all the time.

Pritchard would also discover treasures in nearby woods, fields and beaches with his pal Tee who has joined him on Quest TV’s Salvage Hunters. The pair would sell their wares on the side of the road for cash to buy treats and magazines.

Drew explained: “My parents are still digging up boxes of old rubbish I found when I was a kid – I’d drag it all home. They even built another shed for me as I’d filled all the sheds in the garden with junk!”
