Outlander’s Catriona Balfe discusses parenting during filming
Outlander star Caitriona Balfe and executive producer Maril Davis spilled the beans on exactly who knows how Jamie and Claire’s love story will come to an end during an appearance at the ATX festival.
As Outlander gears up to shoot the final season, it begs the question: how does author Diana Gabaldon plan on ending her epic time-travelling drama?
While the second half of season seven should premiere at some point in 2024, production on season eight has been delayed due to the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.
Season eight will reportedly cover the events in book nine, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, Maril has previously shared.
But Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s saga will continue with Diana’s 10th and final book in the series.

Caitriona previously mentioned Sam knew how Outlander would end, but she has been kept in the dark. But she is fine with the mystery.
“Has Sam ever slipped up?” asks moderator Reshma Gopaldas.
“No, he smugly holds it over me all the time,” Caitriona jokes before adding: “To be honest, I actually like not knowing.”

While Caitriona admits there were some days where she wondered what would happen. Before slipping into a goofy Sam voice, “I’m not going to tell you.”
Reshma then noted it was a big secret to keep for 10 years before turning to Maril and asking how many drinks it would take for her to slip up and reveal how Outlander would end.
“I won’t slip up. But I’ll be honest, I’ve read the last like two or three pages – which is supposedly the end. I’m sure that’s what Sam has read, I’m still confused,” she said while laughing.
“I keep meaning to ask Sam about it because he’s like, ‘I know the ending’ But, I’m like ‘what the f**k does that mean?’ I’m not sure I get it.” she continued.
When asked if Caitriona is the only one who doesn’t know how Jamie and Claire’s saga will end, Maril was quick to clarify she and Sam – and obviously Diana – were the only ones who knew.
Caitriona then seemed shocked to learn executive producer and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts was not among those in the know.
But Maril explained that he was just like Caitriona and didn’t really want to know until he had to.
