Ken Barlow (William Roache) finds himself in hot water soon as another one of his old flames – Martha Frazer (Stephanie Beacham) returns to Coronation Street next month – on her canal barge, of course.
Acclaimed actress Stephanie Beacham will reprise her role as femme fatale Martha 13 years after a brief fling with Ken almost resulted in him leaving his wife Deirdre.
Having recently rekindled his relationship with another of his ex-lovers, Wendy Crozier (Roberta Kerr), Ken is stunned when Martha arrives to help out with the Weatherfield Players Am Dram production, currently being rehearsed on the cobbles by the likes of Mary (Patti Clare), Brian (Peter Gunn), Ken and Wendy.
Despite the fact Wendy and Ken have reunited, it’s not long before his head is turned once more by the exotic charms of Martha, and as history repeats itself, Ken finds himself caught up in another love triangle.
Ken’s love life is more exciting than ours, but whatever.
Discussing the return of another iconic character, William Roache said: ‘I was delighted when Wendy came back into Ken’s life. I love that the writers are drawing on the rich history of Ken’s life to come up with these stories.
‘When I found out that Martha was also going to make a return I was thrilled, but I fear heartache may be round the corner once more for Ken now he has found himself in another love triangle.’
On reprising her role, Stephanie said: ‘I am delighted that Martha has returned to Weatherfield. It is an absolute joy to be working with Bill again.’
Stephanie’s returning scenes as Martha will air on November 23.
