Strictlys Jody Cundy issues update after hospital dash and missed training

Strictly’s Jody talks about infection

Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Jody Cundy, 44, has given an update about his “minor niggle” which caused him to go to hospital in the early hours and miss two days of training this week.

Speaking on Strictly: It Takes Two viewers last night, the cyclist explained that an infection had got in the way of him being able to use his prosthetic leg for dancing.

In a chat with host Janette Manrara, he explained: “I got home on Tuesday night, took my leg off, and said, ‘Oh that’s quite sore’, and I didn’t really think too much of it, I cleaned it, bathed it and made sure it was all okay.

“And then I got up at about four o’clock in the morning and I looked at my leg and it was warm, swollen, and I said, ‘That’s getting infected I need to see somebody about it’.”

After being prescribed antibiotics, Jody has now said things seemed to be “settling down”.

“Everything seems to be settling down and I hope to be back on the @bbcstrictly dance floor this Saturday evening. #TeamWheelsandHeels.”

Ahead of his injury, Jody said he and professional partner Jowita Przystał had luckily managed to rehearse their latest routine “a number of times” which made him hopeful about performing this week.

The dancing duo are due to perform an American Smooth to Married Life from Up, as part of movie week.

Jowita has also expressed her hopes of the pair performing on Saturday night.

“Staying positive is the key and we really hope we can perform for you guys this routine cause it means a lot to us sending lots of love! Team wheels & heels.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Jody and Strictly for comment.

Last Saturday, the duo performed a Quickstep to I’m Sitting on Top of the World by Bobby Darin.

At the end of the routine, Jody admitted he forgot a little bit, although the judges didn’t seem to notice.

Apart from a few comments about his moves, hard to please judge Craig Revel Horwood said the routine was “pretty amazing”.

Motsi Mabuse went on to encourage him to be more confident and “enjoy” himself more while on the dance floor.

Head judge Shirley Ballas said Jody’s frame was “the best so far” but also echoed her co-star Motsi’s words.

After the judges’ verdicts, the dancing duo were scored 21 out of 40 points, which put them 11th on the leaderboard.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.20pm on BBC One.
