Virgin River: Season 5 Part 1 trailer

Virgin River season five, episode one only dropped on September 7 with audiences getting 10 new instalments.
Although the new episodes have only just arrived, many fans have wasted no time in finding out what’s next for the residents of the Northern Californian town.
Unsurprisingly, there were a slew of twists and turns to keep fans gripped and in true Virgin River style, fans were served up more cliffhangers than they could shake a stick at.
How did Virgin River season 5, part 1 end?
The good news is Virgin River season five, part two will be landing on November 30, so some of the things left open in the midseason finale will be addressed. Moreover, there will be a season six but fans could be waiting longer for this due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Nonetheless, it’s going to be a tense few months as fans wait on tenterhooks for the last two episodes to arrive on Netflix.

Mel and Jack wanted to grow their family
After suffering fertility issues previously, Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) suffered a miscarriage and lost her baby daughter with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).
Nonetheless, the couple still wanted to try and grow their brood but fans will have to see whether this would be through surrogacy or adoption.
New Zealand-born star Henderson told Tudum: “[Parenthood is] a new dream that’s just ripped away from [Jack] so suddenly, so he puts a lot of onus on the idea of then figuring out another way to have this family.
“In his heart, I think he’s married to this idea that they’re going to have children no matter how that comes.”
American star Breckenridge admitted Mel’s baby loss storyline in season five was “really sad” and there was “a lot of crying” during filming.

The identity of Mel’s father
The bombshells didn’t end for Mel either after her sister Joey Barnes (Jenny Cooper) revealed she’d found a stack of love letters between their mother and a mystery man from Virgin River.
The suggestion was this stranger was Mel’s real father and it looks like viewers will see the nurse practitioner and midwife embark on a journey to meet her biological dad.
Lizzie was pregnant
Despite Denny Cutler (Kai Bradbury) and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) only recently embarking on a whirlwind romance, the youngster revealed she might have fallen pregnant.
As fans will know, Denny has the degenerative neurological condition Huntington’s Disease and had limited time.
He wanted to travel the world and take Lizzie with him when she dropped her news about the young couple possibly expecting a new arrival.

Doc’s health suffered a tragic turn
Doc Mullins’ (Tim Matheson) macular eye condition got worse during the wildfires and he was struggling to treat patients as his vision failed him.
This might see Doc forced to take a backseat at the clinic and Dr. Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanimé) lead with Mel now she was back at work.
His wife Hope (Annette O’Toole) also seemed to be recovering from her traumatic brain injury (TBI) as she was reinstated as the mayor of Virgin River.
Addressing the couple’s health and storyline, Matheson said: “It’s the thing that happens as we get older: We get a little wiser because we start to realize [sic] how short a time we have and how fragile we are and how you want to make the most and the best of it all.
“I think [Hope and Doc] found a new connection of devotion to each other, him to her and she to him.”
A body was found
After Preacher Middleton (Colin Lawrence) suffering so much heartache in Virigin River, it looked like he could finally find some happiness with firefighter Kaia (Kandyse McClure).
But it was all scuppered after she stumbled across a body, which might be the deceased Wes (Steve Bacic), Paige Lassiter’s (Lexa Doig) abusive ex-husband and whose corpse was buried by Preacher.
Cameron and Muriel went Labor Day official
After fears over their age-gap romance, Cameron and Muriel (Teryl Rothery) got Doc’s permission to date given the couple were also colleagues.
Moreover, they went public with the romance with a kiss on Labor Day to seal the deal.
Brady and drugs
Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) and Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) were secretly working together to take down drug cartel leader Melissa Montgomery (Barbara Pollard).
However, Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) broke up with Brady after believing he had been lying to her and started dating Mike.
This love triangle will continue into the next set of episodes if the truth emerges about Brady going straight and teaming up with the former LAPD cop to take down the cartel.
