<\/p>\nLes Dennis was chomping at the bit to be chosen for this year\u2019s Strictly.<\/p>\n
The funnyman, 69, wants to try his hand at as many things as he can before he gets too old.<\/p>\n
When word came through that he was in, his wife wept tears of joy \u2013 while he just hoped his knee replacement would hold up.<\/p>\n

Les said: "I was in the mix for Strictly, and then I heard from my agent I\u2019d got it, and I called my wife and she cried \u2013 but in a good way.<\/p>\n
"She didn\u2019t cry going, \u2018Don\u2019t do it!\u2019"<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He is ticking off new experiences as he reaches the end of his 60s. "It\u2019s a big challenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
"The last few years, I\u2019ve had challenges just come out of nowhere, like I did my first opera two years ago at the RSC, with no training.<\/p>\n
"So this is such a massive opportunity as I approach 70. I thought yeah, why not?"<\/p>\n

Still on the wish list is a part in Hamlet, or perhaps Macbeth.<\/p>\n
"I would love to do Shakespeare," he said.<\/p>\n
Confessing he struggled to get out of bed the morning after his first Strictly training session, Les said his new knee is far better than his old, painful, arthritic one \u2013 so he won\u2019t need to take it easy in the ballroom.<\/p>\n

He said: "I can do all the dances."<\/p>\n
When he had the surgery two years ago, it was under local anaesthetic.<\/p>\n
"I stayed awake for it," he said proudly.<\/p>\n
"I thought, 'I'll listen to what\u2019s going on'.<\/p>\n
"I could hear \u2018bang, bang, bang\u2019 \u2013 I thought somebody had put shelves up. Ten weeks later, I was rehearsing Hairspray.\u201d<\/p>\n
