COMEDIAN and actor Russell Brand has always shared a close bond with his mother Barbara.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But who is she and when was she the victim of a <\/span>hit-and-run accident<\/span>? Here\u2019s everything you need to know.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Who is Russell Brand's mother Barbara?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Barbara is the mother of actor and comedian <\/span>Russell Brand<\/span>, and grandmother to <\/span>his children<\/span>, whom he shares with his wife, <\/span>Laura Gallacher.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbara <\/span>married Russell\u2019s dad, Ronald Brand, in 1969 but the couple later divorced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brand is her only child, and as mentioned above, the pair have always shared a close relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n

When was Barbara the victim of a hit-and-run accident?<\/b><\/h2>\n

On April 26, 2018, The Sun revealed that Barbara had been involved in <\/span>a serious car accident<\/span> while on her way to babysit at the star\u2019s home.<\/span><\/p>\n

The then 71-year-old was in the back of a chauffeur-driven Audi A8 when it crashed with a Vauxhall Astra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its driver fled after getting into another car.<\/span><\/p>\n

A witness, who gave first aid, said: \u201cThe Astra came round the corner and lost control. It went straight into the Audi.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe chauffeur got out and fell. Russell\u2019s mum was trapped. She had a seatbelt across her chest. She was in pain and people got her out.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe was in a bad way, lying on a stretcher. She had blood coming from her nose and on the back of her head. We were talking to her, trying to keep her with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In April 2018, Brand released a video stating that he would be cancelling the remaining dates of his Rebirth tour following Barbara's accident.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a video posted to <\/span>social media<\/span>, Brand said: "My mum's been in a really serious road accident and has sustained what are being called "polytraumatic injuries", that means numerous, life-threatening injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

"I can't imagine performing at the moment," he continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

"I feel too sad and too connected to this. I apologise but obviously, it's circumstances beyond my control."<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on <\/span>Loose Women<\/span> in May of that year, the <\/span>Get Him To The Greek<\/span> star opened up about the extent of his mum's injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about her recovery he said: "She\u2019s done amazing. She had this terrible car crash.<\/span><\/p>\n

"The geezer in the other motor legged it.<\/span><\/p>\n

"She had a broken back, broken neck, eight ribs, she\u2019s made an incredible recovery."<\/span><\/p>\n

What has Russell said about Barbara's cancer battle?<\/b><\/h2>\n

In October 2017, Brand revealed that Barbara was battling <\/span>cancer<\/span> for the sixth time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The comedian and actor shared the news about his mother's diagnosis during an interview with US journalist <\/span>Megyn Kelly<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time he didn't share any details about the specific type of cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbara has previously survived uterine cancer when Brand was just eight-years-old and has also had <\/span>breast cancer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
