Alan Carr has claimed he “confronted” Simon Cowell after he felt he was “snubbed” to be the replacement judge on Britain’s Got Talent after David Walliams stepped down from his role.

David Walliams quit the British talent show back in November 2022 and was quickly replaced by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli.

Comedian Alan recently admitted he confronted Simon over his choice to not hire him as a judge, receiving a very placid answer.

Alan, who auditioned for the role and quickly lost out to Bruno, bumped into Simon a week later at Amanda Holden’s house during a party she was hosting.

He told The Mail: “Amanda Holden, the next week, said, ‘Alan, I’m having a party,’ I went, ‘Great. Love it’.

So, as I always do, with my best humour I went over there and said, ‘My wrist has been hurting all weekend practising that bloody buzzer and you went for Bruno’.”

Doing an impression of the music mogul, he mimicked: “Alan, that’s show business.”

Alan confirmed that he met with ITV bosses to replace David earlier this year and expected to have the job.

He was so sure that he secured the role that he had already planned the outfits he would be debuting during the auditions.

Touching on when he found out Bruno had gotten the role, he added: “I had a meeting with them and they said, ‘Oh yeah…’

Don’t miss…

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. I Have a Dream, a talent show to find the new stars to play Sophie and Sky in Judy Craymer’s West End production.

Taking notes from Simon’s tools over the years, Alan admitted: “With talent shows, I think there is a bit of cynicism but we just wanted this to be very organic, very nice.

“We’re just firm but fair in a kind way. It’s a new era of talent shows, being kinder, a bit nicer. They’re young.”

MAMMA MIA! I Have a Dream begins Sunday, October 22 at 6pm on ITV1, STV and ITVX.
