All Creatures Great and Small’s Mrs Pumphrey actress Patricia Hodge has opened up about returning to the Channel 5 series.

During the last series, Mrs Pumphrey was rarely seen as Patricia had other commitments which meant she wasn’t able to travel to the Dales for filming.

However, fans of the show will be excited to know that Mrs Pumphrey and her dog Tricky Woo will be involved in the latest series, and will witness her friendship with Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) flourishing.

Patricia recently opened up about returning to the series and explained sometimes it was a “struggle” to get back into the swing of things.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press: “I think you get to know more about them [characters] as well, you think ‘ah yeah’.

And then it suddenly tells you something about the character. I think getting into the gear is having the permed-looking hair that sort of does it.

“And you think ‘Ah right I know where I am now’. A lot of the time that gives it to me.”

Patricia also spoke about feeling like one of the family and trying to slot back in and added: “I never didn’t feel part of the family, they made me feel that from day one.

Don’t miss…

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. I have real life and then I have to go back into it, which can be a struggle.

“When I am there they have to really use me so I had the idea that I would be up there and have time in the Dales but when I get there I am on.”

All Creatures Great and Small airs Thursday from 9pm on Channel 5.
