When it comes to looking younger, there are many options out there for women, from skincare to haircare to cosmetic treatment.

According to one expert, the correct application of makeup can make the world of difference, taking years off a woman’s age.

Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to Spectrum Collections MUA Hannah Barnett about how women can look younger instantly with a few simple makeup hacks.

According to Hannah, anti-ageing makeup starts well before the application of any makeup products. She said: “Hydration is key. Start with a serum infused with hyaluronic acid to make the skin super supple and hydrated! Follow with your favourite moisturiser.”

Moving onto makeup, the MUA advised: “Avoid foundations that have too much coverage or too mattifying as this can enhance fine lines. Instead, choose a tinted moisturiser or lightweight foundation with a dewy finish to make the skin glow for a fresh-faced complexion.”

She instructed: “Apply a creamy liquid concealer with a small brush and place this in the inner part of your eye to brighten any discolouration.

“Choose a peachy toned concealer or corrector to neutralise blue tones in the inner part of the eye. Blend with your fingers to melt in the product. This will ensure you don’t apply too much, as overdoing it on the concealer can sit in fine lines. So, use it sparingly!

“Choose creams and liquids for blusher and highlighters. Apply blush to the apple of the cheek to give the appearance of rounded plump cheeks. Rounded cheeks make you look more youthful and fresh-faced.”

Next, the MUA told older ladies how they can bring dimension and definition to their faces. She said: “Ashy contour may cause mature skin to look dull. As we age, we naturally lose fat in the face.

Don’t miss…

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. This will shape the face in a subtle way whilst adding warmth, making the skin tone brighter.”

Hannah continued: “Don’t forget a cream highlight – this will brighten up your skin. Highlighter draws light to the high points of your face.

“So, adding this to the tops of the cheekbones and brow bone will shape and bring those areas forward, again, making the cheeks look lifted and plump.”

Moving onto the eye area, Hannah gave some top tips on how to make these more youthful, dynamic and vibrant. She said: “Fuller, groomed brows look super youthful. Use a brow pencil a couple shades darker than your natural hair colour. Finish with a brow gel to add texture and fullness.”

While many ladies may instinctively reach for black eyeliner, the expert suggested that warmer shades might be the best bet. She said: “Choose a brown coloured liner to define the upper lash line on the outer corner to lift the eyes. Using a pointed pencil brush buff over the edge of the pencil to get rid of any harsh lines for a seamless finish. With any excess product on the brush apply this to the lower lash line. Using the excess will ensure you don’t over apply the product.

Formulated to transform dull, lacklustre complexions, Revolution Beauty’s Miracle Cream delivers intense hydration to help smooth and plump skin’s appearance.

-SPF 30-Dermatologically tested-Cruelty free-Reduces visible signs of ageing-Hydrates and firms skin

An anti-wrinkle moisturiser that is clinically proven to improve hydration, leaving skin looking and feeling firmer and more radiant.

“Follow with a taupe brown eyeshadow through the crease to define and sculpt the eyes. You can also your bronzer to add warmth too!”

Hannah warned: “Never skip curling your lashes! This will lift and open your eye. Use mascaras with a comb like wand (Like the Spectrum one) which will separate lashes for a defined lifted look.”

Lip colour is where you can get a little experimental – there is no one right shade for a younger looking smile.

Hannah said: “For the lips, choose a sheer lip colour with a satin or glossy finish to make them plumper. For a natural look, try a shade that is a similar tone to your lips. If you prefersomething bolder, try a peachy/orange tone in the summer or opt for a berry colour for the colder months.”

The MUA concluded: “Finally, to set any creams in place, apply a light dusting of translucent powder to lightly set any creams in place and finish with a hydrating setting spray to melt all the products together.”
