A home decor pro has revealed five things you should consider when refreshing your space to make it feel more expensive.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Preston Konrad is a creative director based in New York best known for his appearances on the Today show as well as on Good Morning America, Rachel Ray and Access Hollywood.<\/p>\n
He recommended layering up floor rugs, getting rid of ‘boob lights’ and mixing up textures to make a home look like it was curated by an interior designer.<\/p>\n
The 39-year-old used to design retail spaces for high end brands and said layered rugs were a must when he styled Ralph Lauren stores.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘It adds texture, it adds dimension, it makes your house just look a bit more curated,’ he said in an online video.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scroll down for video\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Interior design pro Preston Konrad (pictured), from the US has shared his top five styling tips for making your home look more expensive<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Preston used to design retail spaces for high-end brands and said layered rugs were a must: ‘It adds texture, dimension and makes your house look curated’<\/p>\n ‘I don’t love when they’re super symmetrical, I like them a little uneven or on an angle,’ he added saying they look better slightly ‘askew’.\u00a0<\/p>\n Preston said a ‘super easy’ way to start layering rugs is to use either a sisal or jute rug as the base.\u00a0<\/p>\n Secondly, the designer said to get rid of ‘boob lights’, a dome-shaped ceiling sconce [wall-mounted light] many consider to now be outdated.\u00a0<\/p>\n Preston gave a series of more modern options saying those wanting to replace the outdated light should go for ‘flush mount or semi flush mount lighting’.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘If you’re a renter, take down the boob, put up your light and replace it before you leave,’ he said.<\/p>\n Preston’s third tip was to use Roman shades instead of blinds or curtains.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The designer said to get rid of ‘boob lights’, a dome-shaped ceiling sconce: ‘If you’re a renter, take down the boob, put up your light and replace it before you leave’<\/p>\n Preston said Roman shades (left) instead of blinds, are perfect for rooms with shorter ceilings and recommended mixing textures like wood, leather and concrete in living spaces\u00a0<\/p>\n He installed Roman shades in his own home after finding a ‘super affordable’ set on Wayfair.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘It’s perfect for a room with a shorter ceiling or a window that isn’t super dramatic,’ he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Another of Preston’s tips was to mix up textures and use a variety of fabrics and materials\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘This is a designer favourite, so (use) vintage, leather, wood, concrete,’ he explained.<\/p>\n Last but not least Preston said to mix up picture frames rather than have them all matching.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Update: no ticket yet!\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffb #homedecortips #interiorinspiration #homedecortok #luxuryhome #homehacks101 #homehackoftheday #interiordesigntips #interiordesigntiktok<\/p>\n ‘These certainly shouldn’t match if you want that curated designer look. Try mixing in vintage, wood, black gallery frames,’ he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘I even like throwing in objects into the mix to make it feel really special.’<\/p>\n Home style lovers were thankful for the helpful advice with one saying: ‘I’ll be layering my living room rug now’.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘Love these and you can do all of them at a variety or budgets. Great ideas for my clients selling their homes!’ a real estate agent wrote.<\/p>\n ‘Thank you!! No more boob lights!!’ another replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many weren’t fans of the layered rugs look and some pointed out it could be a tripping hazard.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
