Nicholas Hoult will become the latest in a long line of actors to play the villainous Lex Luthor in Warner Bros.’ highly-anticipated Superman: Legacy.<\/p>\n
Hoult, 33, is in talks to play Luthor, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and while no deal is finalized yet, talks have been ongoing since before the SAG-AFTRA strike.<\/p>\n
The casting comes six months after reports surfaced that Guardians of the Galaxy star Bradley Cooper turned down\u00a0the Lex Luthor role.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hoult will join David Corenswet as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, with Hoult also a finalist for the Superman role that went to Corenswet.<\/p>\n
The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner\/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was reported in late June that Hoult was initially wanted for the Luthor role, though he also wanted to submit himself for the Superman role.<\/p>\n
Hoult was considered one of the finalists for the role alongside Corenswet, who ultimately landed the role, and Tom Brittney.<\/p>\n
Siblings Alexander Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard were also mentioned on Warner Bros.’ short list for the Luthor role.<\/p>\n
The Lex Luthor character made his first comic book appearance in Action Comics #23 in April 1940, created by Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.<\/p>\n
The villainous character has been portrayed on the big screen several times, first by Gene Hackman alongside Christopher Reeve as the title character in 1978’s Superman: The Movie and two of its sequels.<\/p>\n
Kevin Spacey took over the character in 2006’s Superman Returns, going up against Brandon Routh’s Man of Steel.<\/p>\n
Jesse Eisenberg took over the character in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman.<\/p>\n
The character has also been played many times on the small screen as well, with John Shea portraying the villain in\u00a0Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Michael Rosenbaum playing him in Smallville, Jon Cryer in the multiple Arrowverse shows, Michael Cudlitz in Superman & Lois and Titus Welliver in Titans.<\/p>\n

He’ll next be seen Garfield, lending his voice to the title feline’s owner Jon and he also has Nosferatu set for release in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n
