Marvin Humes fans are convinced they have worked out why he was in the bottom two on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – and they have a plan to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The JLS singer found himself facing the boot from the ITV jungle camp this week, with hosts Ant and Dec telling him and YouTube star Nella Rose it "might" be them going home after the public vote. He managed to avoid elimination, with Nella getting her marching orders instead, but the near miss gave fans a fright.

Many were left scratching their heads over Marv's close call, as he has been a popular member of the camp and with viewers. But they now think they have worked out it's because too many people assumed the star – who is married to This Morning beauty Rochelle Humes – was "safe" from the chop.

Several viewers have been posting messages on X, formerly Twitter, suggesting that fans were over-confident about the singer staying so didn't vote for him. One said: "I was shocked Marvin was in the bottom two, he's lovely. Maybe voters thought he was safe."

Another person said: "You realise people don't vote who they want out don't you, they vote who they want to save, I bet most people just assumed Marvin would be safe so never voted for him."

"I’ll vote for Marvin now as others I’d prefer to go before him," shared another viewer. "Think people think he’d be safe so didn’t vote for him."

"How the hell was Marvin in the bottom two?" asked one viewer. "Please don't assume he is safe, get voting. He is the perfect example of a lovely family man . And deserves to win for exactly that reason."

However, a couple of had a theory that Marvin hadn't been in danger anyway. One posted: "The other 'it might be you' isn't always the person with the second lowest votes – as the full public voting released at the end in prior years proves."

They went on: "Sometimes the producers use that other it might be you to boost that person's votes! So Marvin might not have been bottom two."

Nella was the second person to be eliminated from the jungle, after racing star Frankie Dettori. MasterChef star Grace Dent and Britney Spears' little sister Jamie Lynn previously quit the camp "on medical grounds".

For more of the latest showbiz news from Daily Star, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here.
