Inside Emmerdale’s Liam star Jonny McPherson’s former narrowboat with cosy interiors

Emmerdale actor Jonny McPherson lived on a cosy narrowboat for several years with his rescue dog, Molly, before finding love and moving into a flat in Leeds.

Jonny, 41, first appeared as Dr Liam Cavanagh on the ITV soap in 2014 and went on to become a permanent fixture in the Yorkshire village as the resident medic.

Taking on the full-time role in 2018, Jonny has since been at the heart of some hard-hitting storylines and has become a well-loved character on the soap.

While he's become a recognised soap star, earlier this year he sold his cosy 60ft barge named Benedict for a flat in Leeds just a few years after he began his new relationship.

Speaking about his decision to sell the narrowboat, he previously said: "Acting is a precarious profession. It can be very difficult to get a mortgage if you are only working for six months of the year. So, when you get two years of working on something like Emmerdale, it allows you to get a mortgage finally. I’ve got a flat now in Leeds and I’ve sold my boat."

He continued: "I did put it on Airbnb for 18 months before I sold it, and it really took off. After a while, though, it began to get more difficult to manage.

"I was having to check in guests at 10pm on a Friday evening on top of my full-time role in Emmerdale and I decided to sell.”

Jonny lived on the narrowboat, which he moored near the Emmerdale studios in Leeds, Yorkshire, with his rescue dog Molly for over four years.

The traditional boat featured navy paintwork and a gorgeous emerald green corner sofa decked with mustard yellow cushions.

In keeping with the snug interiors, he opted for dark wooden panelling throughout and even made room for a wine rack to store bottles of red.

The narrowboat had pretty floral curtains to frame the quaint windows, along with stained glass lampshades to add a warm glow to the cabin.

The TV star chose white brick tiles in the kitchen area and hung cooper pans above the stove, along with a beautiful wood burner in the living area and patterned tiles to complement the wooden features.

Tiled steps led up to the cockpit where Jonny had placed a table and chairs to enjoy dinner al fresco.

Jonny had often shared glimpses of everyday life on the barge as he navigated locks and tunnels, with the top featuring solar panels to provide an eco-friendly source of power for heating and electricity.

His collier lurcher Molly would often star in many of Jonny’s snaps on board the boat after he adopted her from the RSPCA.

At the time of her adoption, he wrote alongside a sweet snap: "Her name is Molly and I’m so grateful that we have an organisation that allows me to adopt an animal that, through no fault of her own, is now looking for a lifelong friend. She’s incredible. Thank you @RSPC_official."

The 41 year old has been in a relationship for two years and has kept his partner's identity a secret in a bid to protect her privacy.

Opening up about his romance to OK!, Jonny revealed: "I am with someone. She is absolutely wonderful. We’ve been together for a couple of years. I am really happy."

Prior to finding love with his current partner, Jonny dated fellow Emmerdale star Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira Dingle in the soap.

The couple split in 2021 after first getting together in lockdown, but have remained good friends despite their break up.
